Safety

You will need a suitably prepared Ski for the relevant class you intend to compete in. Check current rulebook for guidelines.

Safety Equipment Required :

Helmet

  • A properly fitting, full coverage helmet with double D ring fastener and chin/ mouth protection (motocross type) that meets current British standard must be worn at all times while on the water. Helmets with bolt on chin guards or clip style fasteners are not permitted.  
  • From the beginning of the 2017 season, the JSRA propose to increase level of test standard rating for all Personal watercraft racing helmets in all classes to the highest British standard for type to ACU (Auto Cycle Union) gold standard and furthermore helmets are to consist of at least 50% high visibility or bright colours to increase visibility if a rider is in the water after being separated from their craft.
  • Helmets must be date stamped from manufacture and replaced if over three years old

 

Buoyancy Aid

  • Coast Guard-approved personal floatation device (PFD) in sound condition must also be worn at all times while on the water, including practice.
  • The PFD must also have buckle type fastening to front or side.(or approved style)

 

Back protectors

  • Back protection is mandatory for all classes and should include protection of the coccyx (area at base of spine)

 

Leg Protection

  • Leg guards are mandatory for Sport, Spark and Runabout classes and should consist or upper thigh and hip as well as lower side leg protection. Below are some examples of approved leg protection but should you wish to use an alternative style, this must be approved by the JSRA Safety Officer.

Goggles/Gloves

  • Whilst it is not a stipulation, goggles and gloves are advisable whilst on the water

Wetsuits

  • Full leg coverage is required for both practice and racing within the JSRA Championship

Fire Extinguishers

  • 2kg Dry power preferred per Ski but can take the form of 2 x 1kg
  • Pit areas/teams can group together with a minimum of 2 x 4 kg Fire Extinguishers, spec CO2 or Dry power, within their pit area at each round. You will be required to show your extinguisher at Tech and spot checks will also take place throughout the weekend.

All of the above (with the exception of goggles, gloves & wetsuits will be inspected by the technical scrutineers and riders will not be permitted on the water without the correct equipment.
